This is a wonderful little inn, converted from an older plantation building. The room was comfortable and opened up to a quaint courtyard. Staff were friendly. The town of Hawi was great. Wished we had stayed longer at this spot. There is no breakfast: only coffee and warm water are available in the morning.

This hotel was a pleasant surprise. We spent the first night of our trip here and we were very pleased with the experience. The rooms are small, but clean. The grounds are well maintained, with a lovely little courtyard. It is close to several restaurants and right across the street from where we left for a zipline tour. We enjoyed the simplicity of check in, since they just send you your room code and therefore don't have to be there at a specific time to catch someone to give you a key. We were lucky to stay here the night of a local market that takes place right next door to the hotel. Our first night was spent eating at food trucks and chatting with a friendly local who gave us some great suggestions for our trip.

Great for the independent traveler. There is staff on site during the day but at night it's just you and the other guests. They email your room number and code to open your room the day of. There is a microwave and water dispenser in the main lobby and the rooms include a fridge although they are unplugged when you arrive to conserve energy - they do cool fairly quickly though. There are several picnic benches with umbrellas both in the courtyard and out front to enjoy. The sheets are incredibly soft and overall the rooms have all your basic necessities. My first time here but our friend usually stays here when in Hawi and we see why. Also the hotel is located steps away from the local downtown with food and shops - although beware there isn't much food available after 5pm - sometimes after 2 or 3 pm. One enhancement would be to add additional plugs for charging phones and devices - possibly swapping the lamps for one that have chargers.

Wonderful, sweet Inn with complete Hawaiian Island feel and hospitality. Our lovely Host was Princess and hope to see her here when we come back. Our room was very comfortable with very soft sheets. Location is perfect and you can just walk into town. Plus your only a few miles to some very gorgeous beaches and trails. We loved our short time here in historic Kohala and plan to come back and stay longer. Mahalo

This place is AWESOME! Where shall I start...well maintained, beautifully decorated and lovingly presented. Nothing fancy but has the right balance of home and family. You walk in and look around, walk through the common areas and down the porch to your room along a lovely courtyard. Many places to sit and just enjoy the north end of Hawai’i. Then there’s the restaurant. Good food, made with care and creativity. Rooms are comfy, although they lack any seating - but there’s plenty in the common areas which encourages conversation and community. The walls aren’t well insulated, so you’ll hear your neighbors, but the place instills a sense of peace and quiet, so not a big deal. All in all, very impressed and can’t wait to bring my family back.

I'm writing this review a little late! We stayed here 1.5 years ago and also 12 years ago. We absolutely love this little hotel. Clean, quiet, easy to access room info upon arriving. It's nothing fancy, but it's comfortable, clean, and safe. We love Hawi, so it's an easy decision to stay here when we return to the Big Island. I lived in Hawi as a child and I love returning to visit. I pray Kohala Village Inn never closes its doors because we need places like this to stay (I don't believe there's another hotel or motel up north and I don't generally like staying at AirBnBs anymore). So, please never close! :)

Freshly Remodeled & Very Clean. This is as Hawaiian as your going to get!! Authentic plantation style lodging. Very cute and well kept building and grounds. Feels new…but new as when it was built in the old days :) Very good deal for price. Centrally located in Kohala. I live here and stay at this location often when going to this side of island. This place has improved over the years.

Awesome local place to stay! Rooms are cute and comfortable, there’s tables outside in a courtyard and you’re right around the corner from a coffee shop, stores and a few restaurants. There’s a microwave and water in the lobby and fridge in your room. The front desk was very kind and had an iron and ironing board available for me to use. If staff aren’t present, just give them a call. They’re here in the day but it’s just you and other guests at night. Checking in and out is easy, just use the code they provide in the email and you have access to your room. Check out you just leave by 10 or 11am. I don’t have cable at home, so it was nice to watch tv in comfy bed after a fun filled day, loads of channels. Only thing I’d recommend is they have lamps with power outlets or charging ports. We had to move the plug for the fridge and charge one phone at a time. Not a huge deal at all, just a thought.
